The principal of Canyon Oaks Elementary School serves as an educational leader, manages staff and coordinates school operations. The ideal candidate is collaborative, flexible and passionate about giving all students an innovative educational experience. The Elementary School Principal, as an educational leader, is responsible to the Assistant Superintendent or Designee of Elementary for the educational program of the assigned school, including the coordination and integration of the school program with the District goals and objectives.  The Elementary Principal must be fair, reasonable and consistent, is responsible for the safety of the students, teachers, and the school's physical plant, and is the instructional leader responsible for improving the teaching competence of the staff and the academic and developmental learning of the students.  The Principal is to oversee, expedite, coordinate and improve the education of the children in the school.  The area of responsibility encompasses counseling and guidance, discipline, school activities, professional development, implementation and supervision of curriculum, testing, public relations, etc.  The Principal will work within the framework of the Educational Code, District philosophy, and District policy as adopted by the Board of Education and do related work as required.

Nestled in the foothills of the city of American Canyon, Canyon Oaks Elementary School serves students in kindergarten through grade five. Canyon Oaks opened in the Fall of 2005. Home to the Mighty Oaks, Canyon Oaks Elementary School serves a diverse community of learners. The school's focus is on a whole-child approach to teaching and learning in order to promote a caring and inclusive community; we promote the social-emotional, academic, behavioral, and physical success for ALL.  Students at Canyon Oaks receive excellent academic instruction supported by collaborative grade-level teams, research-based instructional programs, and highly effective student engagement strategies. Additionally, students are supported by the school-wide Positive Behavior Support programs/BEST Expectations, Toolbox SEL, Second Step, and Restorative Practices.

Staff, students, and parents work together to create a sense of community through special events and programs. Canyon Oaks Parent Teacher Organization hosts an annual Harvest Festival in October and Spring Arts Festival in May. These events are designed to bring our school community together and celebrate the work and talents of children.  Monthly BEST assemblies highlight our school focus to Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be your BEST, including the recognition of student leaders from each class and monthly character traits. Students teach each other about what it means to be a “Mighty Oak”.

• A Valid California Administrative Services Credential;
• Master’s Degree with an emphasis in curriculum, instruction, leadership and administration preferred;
• A minimum of five (5) years successful classroom teaching; and
• Possession of a CLAD certificate or an emergency CLAD permit required.
