Job Title- Principal Coconino High School
Reports to- Superintendent
Summary of Function
To plan, organize, and implement an excelling learning environment that guides and encourages students to meet their educational potential. The principal will promote and maintain high student achievement by providing curricular and instructional leadership, and managing overall school site operations. Is responsible for receiving, distributing and communicating information to enforce school, District, and State policies and initiatives.
Qualifications
Qualifications include:
Valid AZ Department of Education Administrative Certificate required
Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from an accredited college or university required
Emphasis in supervision, organizational structure, and secondary curriculum preferred
Valid Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
Three (3) years successful experience as either an Assistant Principal or Principal required demonstrating instructional leadership and staff development.
Bilingual in Spanish or Navajo preferred
Duties and responsibilities
Establishes and maintains a positive and effective learning climate in the school.
Effectively leads, develops, and supports the site administrative team.
Leads with a clear, shared and passionate vision to drive students success, fosters a positive culture, and aligns stakeholder efforts.
Leads the development, implementation and evaluation of the overall instructional program. Promotes high academic expectations and student growth for all students.
Oversee’s counseling services, special services (including 504), and co and extracurricular programs; ensuring compliance with district, state, and federal requirements.
Leads faculty, staff, parents and the community to work collaboratively to fulfill the goals and mission of the school. Cultivates positive relationships with all stakeholders - students, staff, families, community members, business leaders, and local/state/Tribal leaders.
Facilitates the design and initiation of programs to meet specific needs of the school, involving Site Council, parents, and staff members.
Is personally responsible for the daily operations of the school, including staffing, budgets, and district level requirements.
Works with members of the central administrative staff on school opportunities which may include such topics as transportation, special services, and student academic performance.
Champions district policies and administrative regulations.
Actively engages students and parents and staff to ensure a positive school environment. Acts with cultural competence and fosters inclusive practice environments.
Responsible for the performance development, management and evaluation of all staff.
Supervises the daily use of the school facilities for both academic and nonacademic purposes.
Supervises and evaluates the school/s extracurricular programs.
Actively contributes and participates in district initiatives.
Maintains and controls the various local funds generated by student activities.
Assumes responsibility for the attendance, conduct, and maintenance of health of students.
Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings, reading professional journals and other publications, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field.
Assists in the recruiting, screening, hiring, assigning, and managing of all staff.
Approves the master teaching schedule and any special assignments.
Perform other job related duties as assigned.

Ability to react well under pressure, handle and balance multiple demands at one time, work with frequent interruptions, and perform duties and tasks at expected levels of professionalism.
Ability to use independent judgment and demonstrates initiative to act without being asked.
Understands school policy, progressive staff discipline, school law and regulations.
Established experience and track record in successfully implementing and coordinating educational programs at either a school or district level.
Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills.
Utilizes all forms of technology effectively.
Working conditions
Indoor office environment and outdoor work environment. Manages all job duties with the mobility, agility, dexterity, and focused observation it takes to meet standards of performance. Moderate to extreme environmental conditions and noise levels. Prolonged periods of standing. Exposure to fumes, chemicals and gasses. Must be able to handle stressful situations calmly and with consideration of other persons
Physical requirements
Work involves the performance of duties where physical exertion and movement is required to perform aspects of the job. Assistance is available as required to perform physically demanding tasks. Work involves sitting and moving for extended periods of time, requires moving from one location to another, reaching, bending, holding and grasping objects. Verbal communication ability required.
Equipment, Aids, Tools and Materials
Uses office equipment which includes but is not limited to: computers, video projectors, white boards, and office or instructional equipment. FUSD recognizes that ever changing development of technology but expects all staff to keep abreast of changing technology opportunities and use tools and devices provided to them.
