Sidwell Friends School, a co-educational Quaker day school, seeks a talented 7th and 8th Grade EnglishTeacher who genuinely enjoys educating middle-school aged children and appreciates and actively supports the Quaker philosophy of our School. This full-time benefits-eligible position is based on the Washington, DC, campus and will begin in late August 2026.
Reporting to the Middle School Principal, this role is primarily responsible for teaching English and advising a group of 7th and 8th grade students. Other responsibilities include writing student reports, attending annual parent-teacher conferences, effectively communicating and collaborating with students, colleagues, and families, attending meetings, performing duties such as lunch and break duty, and collaborating with English colleagues in the Middle School and other divisions.
Qualifications & Requirements
A bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in English Literature or Education, and must be conferred by the start date of the position; advanced degree preferred
Experience teaching English / Language Arts, specializing in writing, literature, facilitating student-led discussions, and grammar.
Demonstrate a clear understanding of the academic, social, and emotional needs of Middle School students.
Demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively with other educators in a team setting.
Demonstrate the ability to understand the age group and be excited about working with children from diverse backgrounds.
Ability to work Monday - Friday, 7:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Teaching positions at Sidwell Friends School are campus-based and in-person.
Salary
Salary Range $62,096-$132,180. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
