Sidwell Friends School, a co-educational Quaker day school, seeks a 5th Grade Homeroom Teacher who genuinely appreciates and actively supports the Quaker philosophy of our School. This full-time benefits-eligible Middle School position is based on the Washington, DC, campus and will begin in late August 2026.
Reporting to the Middle School Principal, the 5th-grade homeroom teacher is responsible for teaching language arts, social studies, and math in a homeroom setting. Homeroom teachers also serve as the liaison between home and school, so establishing relationships with families is critical. Other responsibilities include planning with a team of teachers, monitoring student progress, writing student reports, and preparing for and leading parent-teacher conferences. Homeroom teachers are also expected to be involved in the life of the school in a variety of ways, including attendance at meetings, communicating and collaborating with students, colleagues, and families, and taking on additional responsibilities such as lunch and break duties.
Qualifications & Requirements
A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required and must be conferred by the position's start date; advanced degree preferred
Experience teaching upper elementary or early middle school is preferred.
Skilled in teaching language arts, social studies, and math.
Proven track record of helping shepherd transitions with students and families.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrates the ability to understand the age group and is excited about working with children from diverse backgrounds.
Demonstrates the ability to work collaboratively with other teachers.
Ability to work in-person Monday - Friday, 7:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Salary
Salary Range $62,096-$132,180. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
