• | Provides strategic leadership to develop, implement, monitor, support, and evaluate the overall division-wide athletics and activities program in order to ensure equitable student participation in all schools. | |
• | Supervises and evaluates staff including Directors of Student Activities and Athletic Trainers in collaboration with the building principals or their designee. | |
• | Supervises and evaluates Coordinators and other assigned staff. | |
• | Monitors compliance with those provisions of Title IX requiring equity in athletic programs and, in collaboration with the Associate Superintendents for Middle and High Schools, requires and oversees enforcement in the schools. | |
• | Monitors compliance with the Division's Conflict of Interest policy and regulation relative to athletic and activities programs and takes action to ensure any identified conflicts are eliminated or mitigated. | |
• | Monitors and collaborates with risk management to ensure compliance with the Division's Community Use of School Facilities policy relative to the use of school fields and other athletic facilities and ensures non-compliance is rectified. | |
• | Works with Facilities Services and construction teams in the planning, construction, and remodeling of facilities to support student activities. | |
• | Monitors and ensures compliance with rules of the Virginia High School League and recommends to the Associate Superintendent for High Schools action to address any violations. | |
• | Provides leadership and direction for the athletic training program and its staff. | |
• | Provides leadership and oversight of the PWCS Concussion Management Program. | |
• | Works with school leaders, the PWC Department of Parks and Recreation, and the PWCS Office of Risk Management on issues related to field and facilities use for student activities. | |
• | Reviews, investigates and approves requests for transfers of students participating in athletic teams. | |
• | Provides direction and leadership for directors of student activities (DSA), coaches, and sponsors | |
• | Supports the Office of Internal Audit relative to any review of the funding of athletic programs, including payment of officials, coaches, or volunteers, and use of booster clubs or other external funding supporting athletic programs. | |
• | Provides leadership and direction for developing, sustaining, growing, and enhancing extra-curricular activities in all PWCS schools. | |
• | Ensures a strong professional development program for DSAs, coaches, and sponsors. | |
• | Works to develop an intern or assistant DSA program to ensure the high-quality candidates are available for potential vacant DSA positions. | |
• | Develops strategies for instruction, safety manuals, and administrative handbooks for middle and high school programs. | |
• | Provides leadership and direction in the development, scheduling, dissemination, and communication of extracurricular activities for all middle and high schools. | |
• | Works collaboratively with purchasing staff to provide support for officials’ association contracts, equipment inventory, maintenance, and repair. | |
• | Manage contracts for athletics, officials, and medical facilities to provide support. | |
• | Ensures a strong program for new coach orientation and mentoring support. | |
• | In collaboration with the individual DSAs, monitors coaches' compliance with VHSL Coaches’ Education requirement. | |
• | Coordinates, manages and monitors special countywide programs, including summer enrichment programs. | |
• | Collaborates with school health leaders on first aid/CPR/AED training for Division personnel. | |
• | Ensures a strong program of recruitment and selection of qualified coaches, and activity directors. | |
• | Leads, supports and monitors the Division’s compliance with Title IX requirements related to student activities and, in collaboration with the Associate Superintendents for Middle and High Schools, ensures noncompliance is rectified. | |
• | Provides direction with regard to student participation in events where weather and other circumstances may pose potential risks to student safety. | |
• | Maintains liaisons with community colleges and universities to support the needs of Prince William County students. | |
• | Represents the interests of the Division with the Virginia High School League and all other organizations that coordinate student participation in athletics/activities. | |
• | Serves as a point of contact for local, regional, state, and federal interest groups and stakeholders related to student activities. | |
• | Collects data on and monitors student participation in both athletic and non-athletic activities to ensure equitable participation by students in all PWCS middle and high schools. | |
• | Provides leadership to cultivate the growth of both academic and non-academic activities. |
