Position Summary
The English Department seeks a passionate and collaborative educator for a part-time teaching position (0.5 FTE) in the Upper School. This role involves teaching English courses to students of varying ages and abilities while fostering critical thinking, creativity, and confidence in language use. The ideal candidate will bring enthusiasm for student-centered learning, a commitment to inclusive and engaging instruction, and a dedication to continuous professional growth. They will also demonstrate creativity, innovation, and a reflective approach to teaching while helping students develop confidence in using language to engage with and impact their communities. Additionally, this educator should value collaboration, contribute to a dynamic department, and cultivate a supportive and engaging classroom environment.
Primary Job Responsibilities
The new member of the English Department will
Teach English courses to varying ages and abilities
Participate actively in collaborative efforts of the department in improving and creating curriculum to support student learning and the mission of the department and the school
Lead or assist with an experience during Interim, a week of experiential-learning opportunities for students in grades nine through eleven (optional for part-time faculty)
Serve as advisor to a group of students (optional for part-time faculty)
Participate in all-school, division, and department meetings
Attend and/or chaperone upper school co-curricular programming, all-school activities, and student-sponsored events
Maintain and grow professional skills by pursuing relevant professional development opportunities
Perform any other related duties that may be assigned by upper school and senior administration
Other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the administration
Skills and Requirements
has the ability to work with students at different grade and skill levels;
is committed to giving frequent and thoughtful feedback to student writing;
demonstrates cultural competency and a commitment to classroom management and curriculum development that promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion;
has the ability to collaborate with department colleagues to follow or adapt the shared curriculum to provide similar skills and content for all students within a grade level.
has experience with and investment in writing instruction that emphasizes process and self-reflection
is interested in collaborating with members of other departments and community institutions to encourage interdisciplinary thinking and real-world impact.
Additional Details
This is a part-time position, reporting to the upper school principal. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2025.
