The Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School in Rockville, MD is seeking candidates to fill the position of High School Arabic Teacher for the 2024-2025 academic year.
The ideal candidate is a warm, creative, charismatic educator with a record of highly successful experience in the teaching of Arabic as a second language to high school students using the proficiency model. The ideal candidate is experienced in effective methods of assessment of second language skills, and is familiar with recognized standards of language instruction, in particular with ACTFL standards. Ideal candidates demonstrate a willingness to participate fully in the life of a vibrant school community, and have demonstrated success in working collaboratively as part of a team.
Pay is commensurate with education and experience, and is calculated according to a school-wide pay scale.
Responsibilities:
Teaching Arabic language and culture to students in grades 9-12
Developing the curriculum and monitoring student progress
Sponsoring and overseeing an Arabic Club
Working collaboratively within the World Languages Department and High School Faculty
Student advising
Other duties as assigned by the High School Principal
BA in Arabic language, education or a related field is required. An MA degree is preferred
Minimum three years of successful teaching experience working collaboratively at the high school level
Experience in differentiated instruction, student-centered instruction and working with students with diverse learning needs preferred
Fluency with technology required
Demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice (DEIJ) required
