The Newport-Mesa Unified School District is seeking experienced, dedicated, dynamic and energetic instructional leaders who have a strong understanding of instructional practices and outstanding communication skills to join our team and serve as a secondary principal. Successful candidates must have administrative experience, cultural competency, and a proven ability to foster a healthy school culture, balancing student wellness with high expectations.
Position Description:
Under the direction of the Deputy Superintendent, Secondary Education, the secondary principal serves as the educational leader and chief administrator of the school. An effective secondary principal will facilitate students, teachers, parents and the local community in building a school environment that maximizes student learning, academic performance and positive social growth. This includes addressing the instructional program, implementation of curriculum, supporting personnel and business services goals and employee evaluation. Identifying objectives and procedures for evaluating efficacy; to plan, develop and conduct public and community relations programs.
Representative Duties:
Plan, collaborate, implement, and direct a high-quality instructional program
Plan, design and conduct and maintain performance evaluation information systems to ensure site goals and objectives are achieved
Plan, develop, organize and administer a variety of program and support systems which support students to achieve at maximum potential
Ensure students have access to student body activities, extracurricular opportunities, and community engagement
Oversee and ensure supervision and accountability for student body activities, athletic and extracurricular activities, plant management, and school connected organizations
Work closely with staff and advisory groups in assessing the school’s educational and program needs, develop short-term and long-range planning strategies for creating an optimal school-wide education program
Confer, consult, and advise District, public and private agency personnel and parents concerning student educational and behavioral management problems and determine alternative solutions
Confer and collaborate with site and District personnel in decision making processes and in the development of alternative approaches to solving educational concerns and issues
Assign, manage, supervise, monitor and evaluate employee performance, providing appropriate coaching and feedback as required
Plan, organize, provide and facilitate professional learning teams and professional development for staff
Establish and maintain procedures for the resolution of conflict to maintain a high level of staff morale and promote a healthy, positive working environment
Work with outside agencies to provide students with community resources and supports including social services and youth service agencies
Monitor and effectively allocate human and monetary resources, appropriately
Participate in functions of the district, school, community and advisory committees and activities
Perform any other related duties as required or assigned

Required Qualifications:
Appropriate California Administrative Credential
Master's degree from an accredited college or university
Five (5) years experience as a site administrator or district level position
A minimum 5 years of secondary teaching experience preferred

The Newport-Mesa Unified School District (NMUSD) includes nearly 59 square miles and is comprised of the cities of Newport Beach, Costa Mesa, and Corona del Mar, California.
