BASIC FUNCTION Under the direction of the Superintendent, provide oversight and accountability for the Human Resources Department. Plan, organize, control, and direct functions of human resources and labor relations, including but not limited to, negotiations, collective bargain agreements, salary placement, job assignments, labor relations, credential compliance, performance evaluations, current laws and regulations, and formal complaints; build capacity among staff; recruit, prepare, sustain, and challenge all leaders to achieve higher levels of individual performance and effectiveness in leading others; effectively communicate with district leaders to provide constructive feedback to improve their effectiveness as they develop new leadership skills. Serve on the Superintendent’s cabinet and serve as Title IX Officer
Requirements / Qualifications
Certificated Candidates • Minimum of five years of supervisory, personnel administration, public administration, or other administrative and supervisory related activities. • Clear California Administrative Services Credential • Master’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university in educational leadership or related field of study. • Experience as a school principal (preferred) with five years teaching experience (preferred) • Training in Labor & Contract law or related legal training or experience • Desire for second language proficiency in Spanish or other language to match community needs. • Excellent communication skills and evidence of effective interaction with community, staff, parents and students. • Demonstrated achievement as an educational leader with vision and strong interpersonal skills, including specific evidence of student academic improvement in a school setting as a result of the candidate’s leadership • Certificate from ACSA Personnel Training Academy or willingness to attend ACSA Personnel Training Academy • SHRM or SPHR Professional certification a plus. Classified Candidates Any combination equivalent to: • Bachelor’s Degree in human resources administration, public administration or related field from an accredited institution. • Master’s degree in human resources, public administration or related field, preferred. • Five years of responsible personnel experience, including two years of experience in a management or supervisory capacity at a public school. • Demonstrated leadership ability and knowledge/experience in increasingly responsible roles. • Training or experience with employee-employer relations, including bargaining table experience. Licenses/Certificates/Special Requirements: • Technology skills • Certificate from ACSA Personnel Training Academy or willingness to attend ACSA Personnel Training Academy
Soledad Unified School District is located in a growing and changing community, with a large Spanish bilingual student population. The K-12 enrollment is currently 4884, with approximately 117 additional students served through adult education programs. In addition to regular classroom teachers, and teachers on special assignment the District is staffed with educational specialists, including psychologists, counselors, speech therapists, resource specialists, special day class teachers, and music teachers.
