Position Summary: The Upper School English teacher will teach grades 9-12. As an experienced full-time faculty member, this position also includes advising 8-10 students and supporting a co-curricular activity such as coaching or other academic school activity. The candidate will align with and support the mission of the school. Attendance is required at all-school faculty meetings, events, back to school nights, and department and divisional meetings after school. 

*If the opportunity arises, a successful candidate may also qualify for the position of English  Department Chair.

The following are essential duties and functions of this role. Duties can change and others may be assigned:? 

• Teach the equivalent of four sections of High School English; plus advisory.
• Will demonstrate mastery of curriculum and teaching High School English. 
• Adopt innovative instructional and assessment practices consistent with departmental philosophy and pedagogies.
• Embark in professional development and keep current with best practices. 
• Accompany students on occasional trips.
• Attend and contribute to meetings during the school day and after school, which includes weekly faculty meetings.
• Attend community events throughout the school year.

Education, Competencies, and Experience: 

• An undergraduate degree in English or relevant discipline is required; a graduate degree is preferred.
• Successful high school teaching experience of at least three years including experience with introductory level as well as the most advanced levels, including AP classes.  Independent school teaching experience is preferred.
• Creative and current with best practices in teaching.
• Excited about teaching high school students to engage in our core educational practices.
• Possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
• A deep interest in our Quaker mission, educational philosophy and DEI initiatives.

Salary: The salary range is expected to be $73,000-$85,000. The actual compensation will be based on the candidates relevant and transferable years of service, and other factors, which include internal peer equity, the market and other organizational considerations. The salary range and/or hourly rate listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation that may be offered to a successful applicant for this position at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.
