Sidwell Friends School, a co-educational Quaker day school with campuses in Bethesda, MD, and Washington, DC, seeks a full-time 6th Grade Science Teacher who genuinely appreciates the Quaker philosophy that underlies the school. The position will begin in late August 2025.
Reporting to the Middle School Principal, the person in this position is responsible for delivering the science curriculum to all sixth grade students. The course is a hands-on introduction to physical science which allows students to construct knowledge based on lab experiences. Students become accustomed to using scientific tools, scientific measurement and abiding by the lab safety procedures as they study the scientific method, chemistry, and physics through an environmental science lens. The successful candidate will be skilled in designing lab and science experiences that deepen understanding of scientific concepts. In addition, the teacher will work closely with other sixth grade teachers to teach general student skills, including how to read and understand a textbook and how to prepare for assessments.
Other responsibilities include but are not limited to writing student reports three times a year; preparation for annual parent-teacher conferences; effective communication and collaboration with students, colleagues, and families; attendance at meetings; duties such as lunch and break duty; and collaborating with Science colleagues in the Middle School and other divisions.
Qualifications & Requirements
A Bachelor’s degree is required and must be conferred by the position's start date. A Master’s degree is preferred.
Previous teaching experience, preferably at least 3-5 years in a middle or high school setting.
Active CPR certification or can quickly obtain one.
Ability to work in-person Monday - Friday, 7:45 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Salary
Salary Range $61,942-$132,094. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
