Position Summary: The Upper School Teaching and Learning Specialist is a collaborative and innovative educator and leader responsible for enhancing teaching and learning practices within the Upper School. This role requires a commitment to nurturing professional growth, innovation, equity, and integrating instructional technology in advancing academic excellence. The specialist works closely with the Upper School Principal, Assistant Principal, and administration to ensure a transformative learning environment for all Upper School students. Additionally, the specialist will collaborate with the Director of Learning and Innovation on school-wide committees to align Academy strategic initiatives on learning, innovation, curriculum, and technology. The specialist is forward-thinking, adaptable, and excels at building strong relationships while inspiring and supporting faculty to achieve their highest potential. This position will begin on August 1, 2025.
Specific Duties Include:
Collaborate with Upper School administration to lead teaching and learning initiatives to foster innovative pedagogical practices in classroom instruction and assessment.
Design and lead faculty professional development supporting innovative approaches to curriculum and instruction, equity-focused teaching strategies, and instructional technology integration.
Lead the Bestow Cohort as part of the Upper School Professional Growth Program, leading faculty through a year-long set of instructional rounds to strengthen pedagogical practices and nurture collaboration.
Promote, facilitate, and drive (through model lessons and classroom-based coaching) the use of technology to enhance instruction, formatively assess student learning and increase student engagement.
Lead the Upper School Innovation Team by using design thinking to drive initiatives fostering transformative learning experiences.
Participate in the Upper School’s Academic Council, a bi-weekly collaboration of department chairs, counseling, and the Upper School administration.
Collaborate with the Director of Learning and Innovation and the Academy’s Technology and Innovation Specialists on instructional technology initiatives to transform learning and integrate emerging technologies into classroom practices.
Serve on the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Committee to establish policies and guidelines for the Academy’s responsible AI usage in education, in addition to supporting Upper School faculty in the appropriate integration of AI.
Support new faculty and staff members in leading professional development in new faculty orientation and throughout the school year.
Assist the front office staff and the Dean of Students with the administrative operations in Veracross, the school’s Student Information System and Learning Management System, including curating data using query design and utilizing the software’s tools for official school communications.
Collaborate with the IT department to support the Academic Dean in the use of Veracross to properly configure school schedules, teacher rosters, student schedules, and grade reporting.
Assist faculty in using Veracross, including designing class webpages, using the site as a communication tool, and properly utilizing the grade book.
Assist upper school students and parents with new student and parent orientation for the student portal, parent portal, and setting up student email and technology.
Stay abreast of professional literature, network with academic professionals at other schools, and participate in activities to stay informed about trends impacting the profession and further enhancing the Academy’s strategic goals.
Perform minor technology troubleshooting to resolve device and/or software account issues and collaborate with IT to resolve technical issues when necessary.
Perform other duties as assigned by position and as assigned by supervisors.
Required Skills:
Research-driven knowledge of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and technology integration.
Strong written and verbal communication skills to facilitate effective and transparent communication with students, parents, colleagues, and administration.
Experience with the Google for Education Suite, especially Google Docs, Google Drive, and Google Classroom.
Research-driven knowledge of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and technology integration.
Exceptional organizational skills, including the ability to efficiently manage multiple initiatives and coordinate schedules to plan various team or individual meetings.
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills to ensure a positive, professional working relationship with all stakeholders.
Minimal experience with troubleshooting technology equipment.
Minimum Job Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university required; master's degree in curriculum and instruction, education leadership, or a similar field is highly preferred.
Three or more years of successful teaching experience; leadership experience in instructional coaching, innovative curriculum and instructional design, and facilitating professional development is highly preferred.
The Teaching and Learning Specialist, Upper School position is an exempt, 10-month, salaried position. 2-3 weeks of paid summer work is expected. Salary is commensurate with education and experience.
