Overview:
The Middle School Director provides leadership and oversight to ensure an enriching academic and social experience for students in grades 5-8. The Director is responsible for upholding the mission and values of Canterbury School. This includes close collaboration with faculty, staff, students, and families to create a supportive and inclusive environment focused on student growth and academic achievement. This position reports to the Head of School and is a key member of the leadership team.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead Middle School academic, extracurricular, and co-curricular programs aligned with the school’s mission.
Manage Middle School faculty recruitment, development, observation, coaching, and evaluation to ensure professional growth and instructional excellence.
Communicate proactively with families and facilitate conferences with parents, students, and faculty.
Oversee the development and implementation of class schedules, discipline policies, and event planning (e.g., chapels, assemblies, etc.).
Collaborate with the Head of School and department heads to align curriculum, policies, and instructional practices, including technology.
Collaborate with the Director of Enrollment Management to support and achieve student admissions and retention efforts.
Oversee Middle School budget.
Act as a visible and active presence in the school community, promoting a culture of inclusion and professionalism.

Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage with a diverse school community, including leading and engaging in difficult conversations.
Curriculum Development: Strong understanding of middle school curriculum design and vertical alignment with other school divisions.
Problem-Solving: Effective at resolving conflicts, handling discipline, and providing timely feedback to students and faculty.
Technology Integration: Proficient in using technology as a tool to enhance learning and develop 21st-century skills.
Organizational Skills: Strong organizational and time-management abilities, including experience with scheduling, budget oversight, and event planning.
Collaboration: Ability to work well with colleagues, parents, and students, fostering teamwork and a positive school environment.
Adaptability: Flexible and open to new ideas, with the ability to thrive in a dynamic school environment.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Education or related field preferred
5-7 years of teaching and/or administrative experience at the Middle School level
Strong understanding of Middle School development and best practices
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit, stand, walk, and move throughout the campus regularly.
