Description of Position: La Cañada Unified School District has an opening in school year 2023-24 for a full-time principal at La Canada Elementary School. Ideal candidates are dynamic and visionary administrators who possess knowledge of best educational practices, strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to the success of all students. The principal would join an innovative management team dedicated to program excellence. The current enrollment of the school is approximately 630.
The Elementary Principal is responsible for implementing the policies and procedures of the District, the rules and regulations of the State Board of Education, the Education Code, and the general laws of California. The Principal fulfills these responsibilities as the administrative and instructional leader of the school by developing the performance objectives for specific areas of the position. The Principal is responsible for personnel assigned to the school except in the areas of maintenance, cafeteria and other staff members assigned to more than one school. This position reports to the Superintendent and participates as a member of the District Leadership Team, Instructional Planning Group (IPG), and the Superintendent’s administrative staff.

Work Year: 12-month work calendar, 8 hours per day, Monday through Friday. The new principal would start work on Monday, July 3, 2023. The first day for students in 2023-24 is Tuesday, August 15, 2023, and the last day of school is Thursday, June 6, 2024. School is in session 8:10 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Salary: Step placement on the CMSA certificated salary schedule is based on education and years of experience in a school administrative position. The annual salary range is from $132,900 to $154,196, which corresponds to $11,075.02 to 12,849.66 per month. Administrators may earn annual performance bonuses. An additional 3% of the salary amount is available for professional development opportunities. Cell phone and mileage stipends would be included in the monthly paycheck. Administrators are paid once a month over 12 months, on the last workday of the month.
Benefits: This position is eligible to participate in the District’s medical benefit plans. Currently the District’s maximum contribution to an employee’s benefits package is $18,034 per year, and the benefits coverage year runs October 1 through September 30. If not already a member, the new employee would be enrolled in the California State Teachers Retirement System (CalSTRS).
Qualifications:
Credential: Valid California teaching credential and valid California administrative credential.
Education: Master's Degree or higher.
Experience: At least five (5) years of successful teaching experience required, and prior successful administrative experience is preferred.
Other: A valid driver’s license with access to private vehicle.
