Organizational Relationship: Reports to Upper School Principal
Summary: Teaches a wide range of American, British, and/or world literature, as well as reading and writing skills in accordance with the school’s curriculum. Full-time, school-year position.
Work Performed: Essential Duties*
Plans effective lessons that engage student interest and foster transfer
Helps students develop a strong appreciation for critical thinking and communication skills
Employs a range of assessment strategies and gives timely feedback to promote student growth
Displays a strong interest and love for working with high school students
Differentiates to meet educational needs of a wide range of students, helping them all feel successful and reach their unlimited potential
Pursues professional development and looks to apply best educational practices in the classroom; becomes part of a professional learning community where teachers are continually improving teaching and learning
Communicates well and works effectively with colleagues, parents, houseparents, and administrators
Purposefully incorporates a range of technology into instructional strategies
Is willing to travel with students for experiential education opportunities
Serves in role of crew leader, supporting a small group of students academically and socially

Minimum Qualifications:
Active (or pending) membership in The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and/or a Journal-listed branch church or society; if not a member, then aligns with Principia’s values. Those who are not members of a Christian Science church are currently referred to as Visiting Professionals, though the position is still a full-time, school-year position; not temporary.
Christian Science class instruction preferred but not required
Bachelor’s degree in English
Teaching certification preferred (required within two years of hire date)
Documented teaching experience with high school students
Strong background knowledge in literature and writing skills, as well as American, British and/or world literature
