The Community School of Naples is conducting a search for an administrative, academic, and cultural leader to serve as Head of Upper School starting July 1, 2023. Applications will be accepted through March 20, 2023.
CSN is one of the top independent, PreK-12, college preparatory schools in south Florida, with a high retention rate of faculty and students. CSN students track higher than other southwest Florida schools in test scores, extracurricular activities, and college acceptances. The whole school enrollment is currently just under 1000 students with 400+/- students in the Upper School. Requirements
This position requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in education or related areas; however, an advanced degree is preferred. The successful candidate will have 8 -10 years of independent school experience with a history of leadership. The Head of Upper School reports to the Head of School and is a member of the Senior Leadership Team. Strong communication skills are essential, as well as the ability to partner with the Middle and Lower School Division Heads as well as other Senior Leadership colleagues, faculty and staff.
Responsibilities
Act as the educational leader of the Upper School, responsible for its day-to-day operation; to direct the activities of the school instructional and the non-instructional staff and monitor the performance of their duties
Function as the chief articulator of the division’s programs, expectations, behavioral guidelines, and other information necessary to ensure that all constituencies are fully informed consistent with their individual roles
Curriculum research, development, training and implementation; to include faculty observation and supervision in this area
Oversee and co-direct the activities of the department chairs, the sponsors of various student organizations and activities, and faculty committees
Make recommendations to the Head of School regarding the hiring, retention, and assignment of faculty
Establish programs for the orientation of new teachers and for professional development training of all teachers
Conduct regular meetings with faculty
Provide for the academic guidance of students; maintain complete academic records on all students; oversee the grading and the reporting of standards and methods used by teachers in measuring student achievement
With the Dean of Students, establish guidelines for proper student conduct and dress; maintain student discipline consonant with school policies; monitor students’ adherence to established school rules; maintain accurate records of student attendance and citizenship.
Be a visible presence in all areas of the school; work toward a resolution of all problems - both routine and unique - as they arise; keep the Head of School informed of the general programs, activities, and problems of the school
With the Academic Dean, prepare a master school class schedule and to assign teachers and students to classes and other obligations
Assist in the admission process for the testing, interviewing, and evaluating of applicants for enrollment.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School
