Basic Function:
Serves as educational and community leader and chief administrator of the assigned 9-12 school with coordination of all school objectives, the instructional program, department chair people, teacher and staff assignments and evaluations; complex student activities; school plant operations and maintenance; school's attendance area.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
The Principal 9-12 is expected both to communicate and listen so that the goals of the school reflect the needs and interests of the school's attendance area which it serves. The Comprehensive High School Principal is expected to know the parents and community and interpret it to the District administrators in an accurate and valid manner.
Contributing to this assignment is the expansive number of students' co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities Duties:
Inspires school community to higher levels of performance through reflective practices and forward-thinking. Guides innovation and change for 9-12 grade-level programs.
Plans, organizes, controls and directs instructional activities, extra-curricular events, special programs, and plant operations at a District comprehensive high school; confers with District Office personnel regarding staff programs, students, finances and legal requirements; implements and modifies the school's mission, goals, objectives and programs as needed. Interviews, selects, directs, evaluates and supervises certificated and classified personnel; assigns faculty and staff as appropriate to meet school objectives. E
Directs and participates in a planned program of classroom visitations and observations; recommends discipline, reassignment or termination action as appropriate; documents evidence of substandard performance. Guides and evaluates high school leadership team. Models the use of technology and data to model continuous improvement. Foster positive and collaborative relationships based on respect and trust. E
Enforces applicable State and District codes, policies and laws; administers District and school site discipline policies and safety programs. E
Plans and directs the business operations of the school; develops and administers site budgets; assures proper allocation of funds for instructional and non-instructional equipment and materials. E
Directs the evaluation and revision of curricular and instructional programs in cooperation with appropriate District administrators; communicates with teachers to assure instructional programs meet student needs and District requirements. Aligns strategic direction for 9-12 education. E
Establishes, coordinates and maintains communications with community and parent groups, City officials, PTA representatives and law enforcement officials. Builds community and business partnerships.E
Prepares and writes correspondence, bulletins and other communications on behalf of the school; arranges for school-level public relations and publicity for special events and achievements as appropriate. E
Plans, implements, directs and evaluates instructional and categorical programs in accordance with State and Federal laws, District regulations and other specially-funded program requirements. E
Assures the health, safety and welfare of students; oversees attendance, behavior management, counseling, guidance and other support services. E
Coordinates the maintenance operations of the school plant, assures proper management, maintenance and inventory of materials, equipment, buildings and grounds. E
Attends, conducts and chairs a variety of meetings with faculty, parents and community representatives; builds capacity of the 9-12 leadership team; coordinates and meets with school site advisory groups; conducts student/parent appeals; responds to and resolves parent, student and staff complaints; represents the school at Board, District and community functions. Sets goals for professional learning communities to guide instruction and program innovation. E
Garners support and enthusiasm amongst 9-12 leaders for the mission and vision of the schools and District.
Directs the preparation and maintenance of a variety of District, County, State and Federally-mandated records and reports regarding student attendance, welfare, discipline, safety, academic achievement and certification for graduation. E
Serves on the Superintendent’s Cabinet.

Education and Experience:
Proper Secondary Administration, Standard Supervision, Ryan Administration, or equivalent credential.
Five (5) years of teaching experience, preferably at the 9-12 grade level.
Previous experience as a Principal is DESIRED.
Master's degree.
Demonstrated leadership and organizational abilities at high school level.
Meet District standards for physical and mental health.
Two (2) years’ experience as Assistant Principal.

Ability To:
Plan, organize and direct the operations, plant and personnel of an assigned comprehensive high school. Organize, direct, evaluate and supervise assigned staff.
Direct activities regarding personnel, the physical plant, budget, student services and activities, curriculum and instruction and communications and articulation.
Train, supervise and evaluate certificated and classified personnel.
Plan and direct the budget and business operations of a comprehensive high school.
Establish, coordinate and maintain communication with community and parent groups.
Plan, implement, direct and evaluate instructional and categorical programs in accordance with applicable laws. Plan and organize work.
Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action.
Read, interpret, apply and explain rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Prepare and deliver oral presentations.
Promote and plan for a positive school climate for high school students.
Encourage cooperative working relationships among staff members and promote high morals. Work closely with parents and community in an ongoing public relations spirit to improve communications and understanding of policies, programs, legal requirements and activities.
