ABOUT THE POSITION:
We are seeking a highly motivated, energetic, reliable individual with a strong work ethic to join our community of committed educators to work as a Middle School Performing Arts Teacher for the 2023-2024 school year.
The Middle School Performing Arts teacher educates Middle School students in accordance with HPA's curriculum, mission, and core values while creating a classroom environment conducive to helping students develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge in the performing arts to provide a solid foundation for continued learning and growth. This position plays a unique role to teach, mentor, motivate, and inspire students through an advisory program and experiential learning opportunities within a tight-knit school community. The right candidate will display a commitment to high professional standards of communication with students, teachers, parents, and school administrators. This is an excellent opportunity for professional growth while working with staff well-versed in 21st Century Learning and employing current best practices.
All middle school faculty also play an advisory role. The advisor is the first point of contact between their advisees and parents and collaborates with teachers and the student support team to create the best possible conditions for the growth of their advisees. The advisor is responsible for morning check-ins, which include community circles, hosting afternoon study halls, leading a Club activity, and delivering Project Wayfinder and Current Events lessons. The advisor also works in collaboration with other advisors to plan student retreats, Theme Week, and other experiential activities.
All HPA faculty and administrators are required to participate in school-hosted CPR, First Aid, and 14-passenger school bus driver training (in pursuit of a CDL license) and to maintain these credentials throughout their employment at HPA.
This is a faculty (10-month) position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's Degree in Performing Arts Education (or related field)
Skilled in collaborating with colleagues in curriculum development, design, and implementation
Proficient written and oral communication skills that can inform families and students to keep them apprised of classroom progress.
Ability to differentiate the curriculum to match the needs of all students.
Knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs.
Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships and communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and families.

Hawai`i Preparatory Academy, founded in 1949, is an independent coeducational school providing a full range of opportunities for students from kindergarten through grade 12. Our boarding program admits students in grades 9 through 12.
