ABOUT THE POSITION:
HPA is seeking an experienced educator and professional to serve as a faculty member in the Upper School Arts Department who is also responsible for serving as technical director for HPA's Gates Performing Arts Center.
The position is responsible for teaching three (3) sections in the art department, working in the co-curricular program for set design for the musical and winter play, leading a student advisory, and attending class meetings, assemblies, faculty meetings, and supporting the Student Life program by participating in activities. Our teachers work with students on the continuous development of skills, attitudes, and knowledge required to make effective college, career, and life choices.
This position is also responsible for overseeing general usage of HPA's Gates Performing Arts Center; ensuring that the Center is maintained in optimal condition; and promoting and encouraging shared use of the facility to support Lower, Middle, and Upper School programs as well as community events, keeping in mind that school performances have precedence over other events.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three to five years of experience teaching and managing facilities in a performing arts environment, preferably at the high school level, and hold a degree in a related discipline. Boarding school and coaching experience are preferred.
All HPA faculty and administrators are required to participate in school-hosted CPR, First Aid, and 14-passenger school bus driver training (in pursuit of a CDL license) and to maintain these credentials throughout their employment at HPA.
This is a faculty (10-month) position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's Degree in Subject Area.
- Education and teaching credentials preferred.
- Experience in a leadership role in a performing arts environment.
- Experience in teaching secondary school students.
- Skilled in collaborating with colleagues in curriculum development, design, and implementation.
- Proficient written and oral communication skills to keep families and students apprised of classroom progress.
- Ability to differentiate the curriculum to match the needs of all students.
- Knowledge of current research and theory to the instructional program.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships and communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and families.
- Perform each essential job function proficiently.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of national standards in the teaching area and demonstrated performance in meeting best practice standards.
- Experience in teaching in independent schools and boarding schools.
- Experience leading co-curricular activities.
