The United Nations International School (UNIS) is seeking individuals with extensive teaching experience to fill the role of homeroom teacher in the Junior School (Pre-K through 4th grade). While this dedicated teacher should have the expertise and/or understanding of a wide range of instructional strategies in reading, writing, and mathematics, he or she should also have a strong background and passion for working with elementary students in supporting their emotional and social development and working collaboratively with parents to support their students’ development. The homeroom teacher should be open and reflective, team-oriented, passionate, and interested in supporting UNIS students learning across the age spectrum in Junior School.

This role reports to the Junior School Principal.
Responsibilities
General Responsibilities
Implement the UNIS Mission into your planning process and interactions with all members of the community
Manage classrooms and implement school procedures
Work with school leaders and administrators to implement school policies
Educate an ever-growing, culturally diverse student population
Incorporate new models of the inclusive classroom
Working with Students
Provide student-centered learning experiences that are engaging, inquiry-based, aligned to the curriculum and differentiated to meet the needs of the students
ImplementResponsive Classroom strategies in the classroom to support the students’ behavioral needs
Work collaboratively with students to establish and enforce a set of rules for the classroom
Help students to set goals and to assess and monitor their performance. Work one-on-one with students to improve performance and address behavioral issues
Monitor the halls in between classes
Working With Faculty
Collaborate and coplan with teachers to develop effective learning experiences
Review common assessments and standardized testing results
Working With Parents
Collaborate with parents to support the student's academic, social, and emotional needs
Regularly communicate and report student academic, social, and emotional performance
Regular Meetings
Attend weekly grade-level meetings
Attend weekly faculty meetings
Specific Qualifications and Skills
Education: MSEd, MEd, MA, or equivalent degree required
Three to five years of relevant experience required
Excellent written and Oral Communication Skills
Superior interpersonal skills, patience, and sense of humor required. The classroom culture must be a comfortable and engaging place for students, parents, faculty, and administrators
Experience teaching with Common Core Math, Common Core English Standards and Readers and Writers workshop models is a plus
Experience teaching in a multilingual, multicultural environment is a plus
Annual Salary in the range of $61,075 to $108,198 (salary is prorated for part-time or temporary positions).
