POSITION DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Under the direction of the Superintendent, provides instructional leadership for all phases of the instructional program. Provides leadership through research, development, implementation and assessment of professional learning and instructional tools and programs related to specific content areas of the comprehensive educational program in grades 9- 12.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Demonstrated leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary for working
effectively with students, staff, and parents
• Demonstrated successful experience in public school administration and supervision
• Completion of at least two years of successful experience as a classroom teacher at the
high school level or similar experience
• At least five years of total public education experience preferred
• At least three (3) years of professional development activities, within the last three years
• Demonstrated ability to implement school or district-wide action plans to address a
specific content or organizational area
• Demonstrated knowledge of secondary curriculum
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, BONDING, AND/OR TESTING REQUIREMENTS:
• Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a related field
• Valid California Teaching Credential
• Valid California Administrative Services Credential (or ability to secure within 6 months of hire date)
• Criminal Justice fingerprint clearance
• Valid California drivers license
• Tuberculin Clearance
• First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificates
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Knowledge of the State Education Code and other applicable laws and collective bargaining
agreements; applicable state and federal advisory documents, the State and Federal Framework
in all subjects taught and District curriculum standards as appropriate

that produce gains in closing the achievement gap
• Demonstrated success and experience in instructional program design and development
• Demonstrated knowledge of high leverage, research-based instructional strategies and models
for improving instructional practices

• Select, induct, support, evaluate and retain high quality instructional staff with regular
classroom observations and support for improving employee performance
• Supervise, direct, and coordinate the assignment of certificated and classified staff while
effectively managing staffing allocations to maximize all resources
• Oversees all school operations, including daily school activities, the development of class
schedules, teacher assignments, athletic program, and extracurricular activity schedules
• Oversees student attendance and directs staff to comply with federal and state laws, State
Board of Education rules, and board policy
• Serve as a mandated reporter for child abuse
• Perform other duties as assigned
