JOB SUMMARY: The school principal is responsible for supporting the Diocese of Boise in its mission to evangelize, catechize, and educate youth in a Catholic School environment. The Principal performs all duties including school safety, implementation of Catholic Mission and Catholic Identity, leadership of the school, implements rigorous academic program in our K-8th grade setting, ensures operational vitality of the school.
REPORTS TO: Pastor of St. John’s Cathedral Parish
CONTRACT DAYS: 220 (two weeks after school ends and two weeks before school resumes)
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
The responsibilities of a school principal include a wide variety of tasks and responsibilities: Catholic mission, school leadership, academic excellence, supporting fund raising activities and operational vitality of the school. The Principal should be prepared to work outside of normal school operational hours as needed for special events, facility needs, and urgent issues that may arise.
Mission, Vision and Catholic Identity
- Recognize and support the Catholic Mission of the School by speaking, acting, and instruction consistent with the teaching of the Roman Catholic Church. The principal may not espouse any doctrine inconsistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
- Give evidence of living Gospel values by being an active member of a faith community and being open to the importance of a personal faith journey; strive to model the teaching of Jesus by attitude and example.
- Help build the school’s faith community by a demonstrated willingness to participate in, and help plan, school religious, service activities and retreats
- Should be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church
- Be a strong spokesperson for the school and for Catholic education in the community
Leadership
- Serve as leadership of our K-8th grade Catholic school
- Attend all board meetings
- Present at community events and fundraisers
- Serve as administrator at designated after school, evening and community events
- decision-making as needed
- Provide professional development
- Along with pastor and School Advisory Board, implement school long-term planning, accreditation and goal setting
- Assist, advise and evaluate certified staff as needed
- Supervise and evaluate classified staff
Student Behavioral Growth
- Enact the school’s behavioral growth/discipline policies and procedures including handling daily student discipline
- Facilitate SEL program
- Facilitate behavior meetings
- Communicate with parents and teachers in regard to student discipline
- Track and manage student behaviors
- Track and manage student attendance and grades in middle school
- Manage after school detention
Operations/Fundraising
- Create and manage duty schedules
- Monitor school security system
- Be available for after hours security concerns
- Manage emergency drills, safety protocols, and teacher/student training
- Work with Development and Marketing Director to implement successful fundraising efforts
- Interact with school donors
SIS/LMS
- Create and import master schedule
- Manage student schedule changes
- Manage Parent/Guardian use
- Provide gradebook support for teachers
- Work with online forms
- Pull and post report cards and progress reports
- Management of database / records
Testing
- Utilize test date to drive instruction and academic improvement
- Conduct data management of testing software
- Create testing schedules and testing session set-up
- Provide support for staff and students
Facility
- Supervise facility manager & custodial staff
- Coordinate school board facility committees and provide monthly updates to board
- Inventory of furniture and other assets
- Managing Keys
- Overseeing purchased items through school
Technology
- Manage Inventory of technology
- Monitor student usage including management of safety monitoring software
- Collaborate with contracted IT staff
- Provide teacher & student support with technology
Education and Experience:
- Hold a valid Idaho Administrator certificate, or be eligible for licensure as an administrator in Idaho
- Demonstrate successful experience as a classroom teacher or school counselor/building administrator.
- Have previous school administration experience.
