The Oak Ridge School system seeks applicants for the position of principal of Robertsville Middle School. Robertsville is one of two middle schools in the Oak Ridge community, an educational and scientific center, located within the Knoxville, Tennessee metropolitan area. The school serves 692 students from the fifth through eighth grade with a faculty of 84 staff members.
The Robertsville principal is a twelve-month position with twenty-four (24) days paid vacation and ten (10) paid holidays. Salary ranges for this position is based on the 2021-2022 budget are $94,871-$119,169 (BOE approval will change salary 7/1/22). Salary will be negotiated within the prescribed range and will take into consideration training and experience.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide leadership in the areas of curriculum, instruction, and assessment.
- Support a middle level educational program that is comprehensive, challenging, purposeful, integrated, relevant and standards based.
- Ensure that classroom instruction is delivered in a manner appropriate to the needs and characteristics of young adolescents provided by skilled and knowledgeable teachers.
- Deliver professional development and technical assistance based on the needs of faculty and staff as articulated in the school building plan.
- Assign, train, observe and evaluate all professional and non-professional staff in collaboration with relevant district personnel.
- Create a supportive learning environment that promotes high standards for student conduct.
- Cultivate a culture of collaboration amongst students, staff, parents, and community.
- Be a primary source of information and resources on young adolescents and their schooling.
- Recognize and honor outstanding educators in the school.
- Recognize and honor outstanding students in the school.
- Create networks of educators, parents, and others involved in the lives of young adolescents.
- Engage in continuous improvement efforts through planning and participation at team and committee meetings.
- Work with constituent groups, in consultation with the office of curriculum and instruction, to identify effective models for programmatic, curricular, instructional and assessment issues.
- Manage the school wide budget to maximize resources to improve student achievement.
- Design a master schedule that will maximize instructional time and support the diverse needs of the students.
- Require the use of data to inform decisions.
- Manage the use of space to support school improvement
- Maintain a school webpage that is easily accessible to parents and includes pertinent information and research.
- Engage in other duties as may be assigned by the superintendent and his/her designee.
An applicant for this position must hold a minimum of a master’s degree and must have or be able to obtain secondary Tennessee principal licensure. Preferred experience as middle school administrator. The person who receives this appointment will be expected to reside in the City of Oak Ridge.
The role of the middle school principal focuses most sharply on educational leadership, i.e., the curriculum, instruction, and the professional improvement of the staff.
