OVERALL RESPONSIBILITY
Chief executive and educational leader of the school; is responsible for the management of the instructional program, operation of the school, participation in staff and student activities, and exercises leadership in the community; is accountable to the superintendent for the quality of teaching and counseling, curriculum and maintenance of the school and the achievement of the students. The Principal serves as a member of the district’s Management Team and participates in district projects as assigned. The Principal also assumes other responsibilities and duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
• Responsible for the effective operation of the instructional programs at the school in accordance with the adopted district curriculum and in the absence thereof of State Frameworks and Model Curriculum. • Responsible for the selection of instructional materials appropriate to the assigned school in accordance with district policies, procedures, regulations, and State law. • Responsible for the operation, within compliance requirements, for all state, federal and local mandates appropriate to the school. • Must have knowledge of and be able to retrieve, analyze, and sort data in order to make instructional decisions to improve student achievement. • Demonstrate skill and knowledge in designing, implementing, and evaluating major programs and activities of high quality to bring about needed change and higher performance. • Plan, initiate, monitor, and evaluate alternative programs and procedures to improve the educational program for students, including those “at risk.” • Provide oversight supervision of programs and activities that are outgrowths of the school’s curriculum, including after school and extracurricular activities • Assists in the recruitment, selection, assignment, in-service training, and transfer of certificated and classified personnel through coordination with the Superintendent in accordance with district policies and procedures. • Must supervise and provide quality evaluations of all staff assigned to the school site in a timely manner. • Observe the operation of classrooms and provide feedback and assistance to teachers and students in achieving educational goals. • Conduct regular classroom walk-throughs. V.3.19 • Directs and assists the assigned staff in the development of an effective instructional program through conferences, meetings, in-service workshops, demonstrations, experimentation, interpretation of guidelines, and classroom observation. • Responsible for the implementation of the provisions of the Certificated and Classified bargaining group agreements, district policies, procedures and regulations, and state and federal law. • Supervise the safety and welfare of students • Responsible for student records, health, safety guidance, discipline, and activities. • Implement school and district policies and administrative regulations pertaining to student discipline. • Coordinate and participate in the process of recommending students for support programs • (counseling, special education, alternative education, etc.) • Prepare and supervise reports, records, lists, and all other paperwork required or appropriate to the school’s administration and submit the same in a timely manner. • Assists in budget development and management of the expenditures of the district funds allocated for his/her site within budget restraints and in accordance with district policies, procedures, regulations, and state law. • Promote the cooperative development of a school site plan which best meets the needs of students and aligns with district goals. • Responsible for the inspection and reporting of health, safety, cleanliness, and state of repair of the facilities. • Participates in district planning and decision-making as assigned by the Superintendent. • Serve as a liaison between the school and the community, promoting activities and policies of the school and encouraging community participation in school life. • Establish and maintain good parent and community communications, relations, and programs. • Demonstrate knowledge and skill in using collaboration and consensus building in decision-making processes. • Serve as a member of the School Site Council, attending all meetings. • Maintain a safe, calm, and secure campus • Perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
• Applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, regulations, policies, and procedures related to assigned activities. • Curriculum and effective teaching practices, group dynamics, and budget management. • Modern technology and office procedures and methods, computer equipment, and computer software necessary to perform required duties, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Applications, and statistical software programs and integrating them into leadership outcomes. • Effective master scheduling procedures.
