JOB PURPOSE
The classroom assistant works with the lead teacher to meet the needs of the students in a developmentally appropriate manner and contributes to a successful Primary Years Programme (PYP). The assistant helps to foster an atmosphere conducive to inclusive, transdisciplinary learning through the lense of inquiry, embedding visible thinking.

This is a full-time, bilingual (English and Spanish) classroom assistant position for students in Lower Primary School (Grades 5K-2).

Reports to: Lower Primary School Principal

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead small groups of students or circulate through the learning environment assisting students.
• Help with classroom management, taking over the class if the teacher is out of the room.
• Carry out supervision duties (recess, lunch, etc…) and support with the preparation of classroom materials.
• Collaborate closely with lead teacher(s) to create a seamless experience for the students.

Ideal candidates will have experience with a range of pedagogical approaches and will be excited by the opportunity to teach a diverse student body in an inquisitive and inquiry-based environment. The ideal candidate has demonstrated effective equitable and inclusive practices within and outside the classroom. A passion for working with adolescent learners, flexible attitude, commitment to lifelong learning, and a sense of humor are essential. 
 
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/SKILLS

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent 
• Training and experience in a Primary school setting
• A fluent English and Spanish speaker 
• A commitment to equity and inclusion, inquiry and experiential based pedagogy is essential alongside a willingness to adapt and develop pedagogy to meet the needs of our learners.
• An understanding of the principles of second language acquisition
• An unwavering commitment to the students
• Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills. 
• Enthusiastic about teaching within a multicultural and multilingual environment. Flexibility of approach and a collaborative style are essential. 
• Experience with the IB PYP is desirable, but good applicants with other curriculum experience are also welcome to apply.
