Middle School

Rowland Hall Middle School (grades 6–8) serves approximately 230 students and is focused on the academic, emotional, and social growth of students.  The Middle School runs a weekly schedule, seeing each class three times, once for forty minutes and twice for seventy minutes. Most Middle School teachers serve as grade-level advisors, working on grade-level teams with dedicated collaboration time set aside throughout the week to discuss students, curriculum, instructional practices, and professional growth. All Middle School teachers lead or co-lead a club, activity, or affinity group. In recent years, the Middle School has focused on experiential learning with grade-level class trips and Winter Sports and has moved towards a more extensive grading system with Mission-Based Grading. The Middle School runs a 1-1 device program, sixth graders using iPads and seventh and eighth graders using laptops. Apple TVs are in each classroom, and teachers host their curriculum in Canvas. Moving forward, the Middle School will capitalize on the strong collaborative nature of the teachers to enhance the curriculum looking at interdisciplinary connections and having our students engage within the Salt Lake City community. 

Position Summary

This is a part-time (somewhere in the realm of a 0.6-0.8 FTE) Middle School teaching and student support position.  The Middle School Academic Support Teacher will work closely with the Academic Support Coordinator and collaborate with faculty to support students within the academic and advisory programs. 

Primary Job Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include providing a safe, supportive environment for students in the middle school while also being a resource for teachers and families.  In collaboration with the Academic Support Coordinator, this person will provide small group and one on one instruction related to math, reading and/or writing skills, collaborate with in-class support, assist in gathering data on student achievement and providing ideas and information to add to individual academic support plans. 

Additional Details

This is a part-time, 12-month, exempt position, reporting to the Middle School Principal. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2022.

Skills and Requirements

A Bachelor’s degree and classroom experience working with adolescents are preferred. The ideal candidate is focused on the learning and well-being of students.
