Our two campuses are located approximately a mile apart in St. Paul, Minnesota, serving Grades K-5 on our Goodrich Campus and Grades 6-12 on our Randolph Campus. St. Paul Academy and Summit School seeks qualified candidates for the full-time position of Upper School Athletics Director. The start date for this position is July 2022. The Upper School Athletics Director is responsible for implementing, coordinating and maintaining all athletic programs for students in grades 9 – 12, including interscholastic competition in 19 sports over three seasons in a high school of 430 students. This administrative Leader will join our dynamic, vibrant program to incorporate recommendations from our recent ISACS accreditation visit and will help shape the future of an evolving program through the implementation of a new Strategic Plan and vision.

The Upper School Athletics Director is a reflection of this commitment, serving both the mind and the heart of our student-athletes through a balance of competition with character, and individual effort with team achievements. The Upper School Athletics Director is charged with cultivating a shared vision characterized by a respect for the game, the athletes, the coaches, and the officials, and one in which success is defined through record of wins/loses in addition to the life lessons learned through participation in educational-based athletics. The Upper School Athletics Director works closely with coaches and athletes to develop and sustain an athletic culture in which this vision is attainable and nourished.
Responsibilities include hiring, evaluating, developing and retaining an engaged and responsive coaching staff; developing, administering and assessing athletic programs that align with the School’s mission statement; overseeing the Upper School Athletics Department budget; addressing athlete and parent concerns; cultivating an athletic culture that is aligned with the school mission of excellence and strong character. The Upper School Athletics Director works with the Middle School Athletics Director, Athletic Trainer, and the Athletics Administrative Assistant. This position reports directly to the K-12 Director of Athletics and meets regularly with the Upper School Principal. Candidates are expected to contribute to the life of the school beyond the athletic program.
The successful candidate will possess excellent written and oral communication skills, strong problem-solving and organizational skills, and dynamic interpersonal skills. Ideally, candidates should have prior experience as a teacher and coach, as well as 3-5 years experience in athletic administration, preferably in an independent school, and a bachelor’s degree in athletic administration, physical education or a related discipline (master’s degree preferred).
Preferred knowledge of rSchool Today and the Minnesota High School League Rules & Regulations.
