Solomon Schechter Day School of Bergen County (SSDS), a coed, Jewish independent school serving students in preschool through grade eight in New Milford, NJ, seeks a passionate and innovative Design teacher for a full-time position beginning in the fall of 2021. SSDS cares deeply about our students at an individual level; promotes teacher collaboration on curriculum and instruction; and encourages active participation by teachers in the greater school community.
The Innovation Lab/Design teacher works with the Director of the Innovation Lab to help create and teach the school’s Innovation Lab program. The successful candidate will teach and help facilitate creative thinking, design thinking, and computational thinking in our Innovation Lab. Ideal candidates will have a strong background in classroom teaching at the lower and/or middle school level, experience with design thinking, teaching visual programming languages (e.g., Scratch and Blockly), and familiarity with digital fabrication (e.g., 3D printers and laser cutters). Personal qualities such as optimism, grit, and the ability to problem solve with technology are desirable as is a willingness to tackle new challenges with an open mind and to work collaboratively with students and faculty alike.
