Atlanta Girls’ School seeks a versatile, dynamic, and forward-thinking educator to serve as a part time Learning Support Specialist. This person will support all learners by partnering with the teachers, parents, students, and leadership team to guide both curricular initiatives and innovations as well as student support services. Versatility and openness to innovative instructional practices are essential.
The Learning Support Specialist’s responsibilities include inspiring, modeling, and mentoring faculty members in designing learning experiences through the lens of project-based learning, design thinking, and other inquiry-based approaches. Additionally, the Learning Support Specialist is responsible for helping all students to be successful in their learning journeys through small-group instruction, student progress monitoring, student support accommodations, and parent support in conjunction with the classroom teachers.
The position requires working on campus and remotely as well as carrying out such duties as are normally associated with an educational position (including classroom and non-classroom duties). Applicants should have demonstrated success in working effectively with students, parents, and colleagues and have a commitment to best practices in teaching and learning.
Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills, as well as creativity, are desired to join a highly relational and dedicated faculty. Experience in an all-girls’ school environment is highly desirable but not required. Reports to: Director of Middle & Upper School
Half-time position and reports to Director of Middle and Upper School and collaborates with other administrative leaders and the school counselor.
Collaborate with teachers to build, model, and align innovative instructional approaches and student support services and programs
Serve as on site testing coordinator to facilitate standardized testing and extended time needs (standardized testing in Middle & Upper School and AP coordinator)
Build teacher capacity through collaboration with colleagues in lesson planning, co-teaching, and creation of differentiated lessons to match the needs of each student in the classroom
Provide meaningful instruction in executive function and study skills using a variety of
research-based and innovative teaching methods
Recommend and coordinate resources and programming to students, teachers, and families for intentional student intervention and overall academic development
Coordinate and communicate student accommodation plans to faculty; support implementation of instructional strategies and accommodations, Closely monitors student progress in an effort to provide recommendations and interventions
Build and coordinate outside providers’ tutoring schedules with students, families, and teachers
Showcase effective, proactive, and timely verbal and written communication with students and families pertaining to a child’s progress and needs as well as general information
Launch Return to Learn concussion protocol in collaboration with the Upper Campus Nurse and Athletic Trainer to support and monitor students with mild to severe concussions
Streamline transition between middle school and upper school for students with accommodations, connecting students with the proper support systems; provide transition packets outlining student support agencies and services available at the colleges where students have been accepted
Possess strong character with an absolute drive for excellence, a team-oriented spirit, and a commitment to meeting the learning and social-emotional needs of students
Participation on Research, Design, and Iteration teams and faculty meetings working toward school-wide goals, active search and participation in professional growth opportunities
Participation in other duties as assigned
Minimum requirements include a Bachelor’s degree in education, human and organizational development and/or related fields; Master’s Degree preferred
Capacity to work flexibly, independently, and collaboratively in a fast-paced and ambitious environment
Experience with and passion for designing inquiry-based learning experiences for students
Project Management experience with diverse teams and settings
Classroom teacher and teacher-leader experience preferred
Deep knowledge of adolescent development, learning differences, and gifted education
Experience in developing curriculum through innovative and experiential collaborations
Strong, effective communication skills in both written and spoken mediums
Proficiency and facility with technological tools and platforms.
Position requires the physical and sensory abilities necessary to work in a school office environment, sitting at a desk/working on a computer for an extended period of time, and being able to move around the building and grounds and occasionally lifting up to 30 lbs.
Employee must have a valid Georgia driver’s license or the ability to obtain a valid Georgia driver's license.
