Status: Full-time, salaried, exempt, 11-month position
Purpose: To oversee, plan and direct curricular and extracurricular activities involving students, faculty and staff in the Middle School division
Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintain congruency between the school’s board-approved mission statement and all activities within the division.
Act as the educational leader of the Middle School division, responsible for its daily operation; direct the activities of the faculty and staff in the performance of their duties.
Function as the chief articulator of the division’s programs, expectations, course objectives, department goals, behavioral guidelines and other information necessary to ensure that all constituencies are fully informed consistent with their individual roles.
Observe, supervise and help evaluate the faculty in the development and implementation of curriculum; supervise the teaching process and review and evaluate the academic programs.
Provide for the academic guidance of students; maintain complete academic records on all students; oversee the grading and reporting of standards and methods used by teachers in measuring student achievement.
Provide an orderly environment in which learning can take place and a school climate which is collaborative and supportive.
Maintain an awareness of the educational, physical, social and psychological needs of the members of the school community, and develop plans for meeting these needs.
Responsible for establishing guidelines for proper student conduct and dress; maintain student discipline consistent with school policies; monitor student’s adherence to established school rules; maintain accurate records of student attendance and citizenship.
Oversee and direct the activities of the department chairs, lead teachers, faculty committees and student organizations and activities.
Establish programs for the orientation of new teachers, for in-service training of faculty and for the evaluation of faculty and staff.
Serve as a consultant to teachers in matters of classroom management, teaching methods and general school procedures.
Conduct regular faculty meetings which will deal with routine school matters as well as stimulating exchange of ideas on issues of educational and philosophical interest and concern.
Make recommendations to the Head of School regarding hiring, placement and retention of faculty.
Oversee the coordination of the co-curricular and extra-curricular activity programs of the Middle school; assist in the planning and presentation of school assemblies and programs; assist in maintaining a comprehensive calendar of school events; keep the entire school community informed of various programs and activities.
Manage the Middle School Advisor Program with support from the Student Activities Coordinator.
With the support of the technology department, oversee the creation of a master class schedule and assign teachers and students to classes and other obligations.
Maintain a visible presence in all areas of the school; work to promote the School's image and to encourage the growth of the Middle School in the community.
Assist in the admission process for the testing, interviewing and evaluating of applicants for enrollment.
Serve on the Administrative and Curriculum Committees; attending regularly scheduled meetings.
Work toward a resolution of all problems as they arise, keeping the Head of School informed of problems of the school.
Strive for unity and cooperation through tact, respect and a recognition of individual differences and the special abilities and strengths of each teacher; support the school and its leadership.
Ensure compliance with legal requirements of government regulations and agencies; maintain the educational standards set forth by the Head of School and the agencies that examine and accredit the school.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of School.
Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in Education Administration.
Minimum of 5 years progressive experience in educational administration or equivalent managerial expertise.
Self-starter with an ability to successfully prioritize and multi-task in an atmosphere in which time sensitive deadlines are the norm, as are interruptions.
Ability to delegate, coordinate, and manage multiple responsibilities.
Outstanding interpersonal skills with a strong customer service focus (internal and external).
Excellent written and oral communication skills with an ability to effectively communicate with all stakeholders of the school.
