The International School of Tucson (IST) seeks an experienced, strategic, and inspiring leader with an unwavering commitment to students to serve as its next head of school.
Founded in 2005, the International School of Tucson offers a preschool through 8th grade curriculum using immersive language learning and the Cambridge Assessment International Education accreditation to ensure IST is on the forefront of pedagogical development. IST is a genuinely international school with 38 full-time staff representing 11 nationalities and enrolling 210 students in one of four language and culture programs – Spanish, Chinese, French, and German – while math, science, social studies, art, physical education, and music curricula are taught in English. Additionally, IST offers a nursery school comprised of 38 children under the age of three, affording IST's smallest charges the chance to be exposed at an early age to the sounds of different languages and serving as an important pipeline and transition into the preschool and its curriculum.
In order to protect its vision, educational independence, and international values, IST is operated by a non-profit organization (Tucson International School, Inc.) and is a private, independent school. IST highly values a diverse student body and supports educational and programmatic access by keeping tuition as low as possible and providing scholarships and tuition assistance to over half of our students.
Key priorities for the new head of school include but are not limited to: advancing IST's strategic direction; continuing a safe return to school in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic; completion of a new STEAM Center; expansion of the middle school; enhancing fundraising efforts; recruiting retaining, developing, and supporting a world-class staff; and developing language immersion pathways to high school for IST graduates.
The successful candidate will be a skilled and deeply experienced professional who is adept at change management, with the ability to motivate and inspire colleagues, establish genuine relationships with staff, students, and their families, and manage a multitude of administrative priorities while maintaining forward momentum. The head of school will have the ability to coalesce the school's priorities and achieve transformative results using the latest research, pedagogical practice, and data to inform strategic decisions.
The IST head of school is a full-time, 12-month position to start July 1, 2021.

Credentials for the IST head of school include: Demonstrated successful administrative experience at a school (or section of a school) that is commensurate in size and budget to IST; familiarity with the Cambridge curriculum (preferred) or other international education programs; a willingness to commit to a three to five year contract; and a bachelor's degree is required and an earned master's and/or doctoral degree is preferred. U.S. work permission or eligibility for E-3 visa (for Australian citizens) required.
Employer will assist with relocation costs.
Additional Salary Information: Compensation and benefits: The anticipated salary is in the range of USD $80,000 - $100,000, depending on experience and qualifications. Performance bonuses may be awarded for achieving agreed targets. Additionally, assistance with relocation will be provided; a standard benefits package is offered; and children of staff receive full scholarships to the school and discounted admittance to the nursery.
