Under the auspices of the Catholic Schools Office of the Diocese of Baton Rouge, St. Michael the Archangel Diocesan High School of Baton Rouge, LA seeks professional inquiries and applications for the position of President.
St. Michael is a co-educational, college preparatory school, grades 9-12, for students who are seeking a traditional, comprehensive Catholic education. With a passionate, experienced faculty and a rich and challenging curriculum, St. Michael provides the ideal environment for students to achieve their full potential. St. Michael the Archangel Diocesan Regional Catholic High School was established in 1984 by the Catholic Diocese of Baton Rouge.
The President oversees all aspects of St. Michael’s faith formation, operations, Advancement, facilities, and public relations. The President must be committed to the St. Michael mission and to nurture and expand the school’s profile in the community and beyond. The successful candidate is expected to be an active Catholic who loves young people and is passionate about Catholic Education.
The President is the chief administrative officer of the school and serves as the executive of its advisory board as well as an ex-officio voting member. The President is a Roman Catholic.
Upon recommendation of the board and the Superintendent of Catholic Schools, the President is hired by the Bishop/Superintendent and is accountable for the operation of the high school to the Bishop through the Superintendent of Schools and the Advisory Board. The President is expected to abide by the established policies and procedures of the Diocese of Baton Rouge, the Catholic Schools Office, St. Michael and the directives of the Superintendent of Catholic Schools. The President pursues continuing education and professional development and participates in an annual performance review as outlined by the Catholic Schools Office.
The President serves the high school in a professional manner and acts in accordance with Catholic doctrine and moral teachings.
The President is directly responsible for the external affairs of the school, for ensuring sufficient resources, sound fiscal management and financial stability of the school through direct oversight of the business operations, Advancement, alumni, community relations and enrollment management activities. The President promotes the good reputation and values of the school in acting as the primary liaison between the school, the Advisory Board, and the Diocese. Working collaboratively with the school principal, the school chaplain, and the administrative staff, the President ensures that Catholic values permeate the school culture. These Catholic values emphasize the dignity of all students and the sanctity of life. They provide a spiritual basis for all relationships and decision-making. The President is the chief spokesperson for the school, provides visible, personal leadership to the school community and articulates and promotes the high school to the school community and the external public.
Directs the process by which the high school arrives at its statements of vision, mission, and philosophy; implements the process by which these are periodically reviewed and evaluated.
In collaboration with the Principal, exercises a leadership role in ensuring that the mission, vision and philosophy statements are incorporated into all school planning, programs, policies and activities.
Models a Catholic lifestyle for the school community, is prayerful and faith-filled and committed to personal spiritual growth.
Is loyal to the Catholic Church and accepts it teachings according to its Magisterium.
Cultivates parent/guardian partnerships to advance the mission of the school and the ministry of Catholic education.
Promotes a culture of dignity and respect for each member of the high school community.
Participates in leadership activities in the school, the community and in the diocese.
Ensures appropriate communications with external constituents regarding the purpose and programs of the high school.
Demonstrates the ability to work successfully with diverse institutional stakeholders.
Prepares an annual, comprehensive mission advancement plan for approval by the Superintendent of Schools; implements the plan upon approval.
Organizes the duties and procedures of the business and Advancement offices.
Supervises/Coordinates the Capital Campaign, Annual Warrior Fund, the Warrior Club and all other fundraising efforts.
Develops, reviews and evaluates school marketing efforts to ensure the positive image of the school in the local community.
Designs and implements communication strategies to ensure that the bishop, the Superintendent of schools, the Principal, the staff, school families and the local community are informed about the school.
Promotes cooperation with local parishes and community groups and assists in the recruitment of students.
Prepares an annual comprehensive enrollment management plan, including admission and retention plans and programs.
Provides leadership in the cultivation and solicitation of benefactors and donors.
Participates in and monitors the school’s alumni relations programs.
School Vitality & Viability
Works collaboratively with the advisory board and acknowledges and supports the work of the board.
Implements board policies, ensuring the overall vitality of the school.
Assists the Principal and the Advisory Board in developing a strategic, long range plan to promote the mission of the school, its Catholic identity, its fiscal well-being and ongoing school improvement.
Ensures that the school operates within the strategic, long-range plan and directs assessment of the faithful implementation of the plan.
Hires, supervises, evaluates and terminates all school personnel whose roles support the President’s major areas of responsibility. i.e.: Advancement Director, Alumni Coordinator, Business Manager and Public Relations Coordinator.
Ensures that exit interviews of students, parents, faculty/staff and administrators are conducted.
Takes responsibility for the sound stewardship and fiscal integrity of the school.
Prepares the annual school budget in collaboration with the finance committee and the principal and supervises its implementation.
Implements diocesan and local financial policies and procedures for the collection and disbursement of school funds.
Monitors tuition assistance and scholarship programs.
Maintains overall responsibility for the school’s legal compliance.
Ensures the maintenance and safety of the school plant according to local, state, diocesan and Catholic Schools Office policies, procedures and directives.
Develops and implements rules and procedures to protect school facilities and property against unauthorized use, abuse, damage and theft.
Directs and oversees the completion of capital improvement projects, purchase of capital equipment and facilities management.
Supervise and evaluate appropriate staff and ensure school safety through regular visits to all areas of the school physical plant
The President will have a yearly evaluation by the Executive Committee of the Advisory Board and the Diocese of Baton Rouge Superintendent of Catholic Schools. This evaluation will be based on the duties and responsibilities listed above. Information for the evaluation will be gathered from the Superintendent, administration, faculty, staff and school families.
Requirements and Preferences
The President shall be a practicing Catholic with an advanced degree, having 5 -7 years of relevant experience. The President must be willing and able to travel locally with some long distance travel when necessary.
