St. Paul Academy and Summit School seeks candidates for a Middle School Athletic Director and Physical Education teaching position.
Positions Begins: July 1, 2019 Status: Full-time, Exempt, 12 Month Position Department: Instructional Admin, Middle School
Job Description: The Middle School Athletic Director is responsible for the hiring, supervision, coordination, and oversight of the athletic program in grades 5-8. Successful candidates will possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, be highly organized, and work effectively with a broad range of constituencies including coaches, parents, faculty/staff, and students. The Athletic Director serves on the Middle School Administrative team and must work in collaboration with the Middle School Principal, Assistant Principal, Counselor, and Learning Specialist to develop programming that is developmentally informed and aligned with the Middle School vision at SPA. Additionally, the Middle School Athletic Director will teach one or two sections as needed of physical education in the Middle grades (6-8).
The ideal candidate will have a strong and nuanced understanding of the social and emotional development of middle school students. Candidates should have a proven record of coaching in a variety of sports at the middle school level, and also bring experience teaching a range of individual and group sports with a focus on skill development, team strategy, and positive sportsmanship. Preferred candidates will have a strong record of administrative duties, including mentoring and supervising coaches.
Successful candidates should demonstrate the ability to establish a supportive and engaging classroom for students and to work collaboratively with parents/guardians. They will have experience and a desire to work within diverse communities and across cultural difference. Candidates should be able to advise students effectively and otherwise contribute to the life of the school outside the classroom. Training and experience in Developmental Designs for Middle School is preferred but not required. Candidates should support the mission of SPA and the vision of the Middle School.
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in physical education, fitness, sports management, or related field.
Preferable: Master’s degree in administration.
