Ascension School is the Catholic parish school of Ascension Church that has been making a difference for over 70 years. Emphasis is placed on helping all students, Catholic and non-Catholic, to grow in their relationship with God, to understand the basic teachings of the Catholic faith, to participate in Catholic rituals and traditions, and to grow into morally responsible citizens.
This exciting school community is academically balanced, caring, and stresses Christian values and morals that are grounded in the gospels. These values are not only taught in daily religion classes but are woven through the entire learning curriculum. This integration of values and academics enables each student to grow as a whole person – body, mind and spirit.
Ascension Catholic School is one of three STEM Triangle schools, along with St. Columbkille and Nativity, all located within a 5-mile radius of one another in South Los Angeles, a community beleaguered by poverty, crime and struggling public schools. For nearly 100 years, these three Catholic schools have provided the positive alternative to these negative factors, providing pockets of hope, stability and opportunity for upward mobility through education for thousands of inner-city children.
Currently serving a total of 240 students in the 2018-19 school year, the school has a bold vision of ensuring that its Catholic education is a key part of the solution to the Achievement Gap that is entrenched in the urban cores of South Los Angeles. The school offers a rigorous academic program of value to students and families of the local communities. Its aim is that every student will realize a future full of hope through the opportunity that education and faith can bring forth. Additional information regarding this incredible school community can be found on the school’s website here.
