| The Dean Fellow of Relay Louisiana will play an integral part in Relay’s impact on public education in the state. Relay is committed to developing teachers who will lead their students to academic and character success. Reporting to and in partnership with the Senior Dean of Faculty Development, the Dean Fellow of Relay Louisiana will lead Relay’s programs in Louisiana by managing a team of full and part-time faculty members and operations colleagues, as well as be directly responsible for teaching and advising a cohort of graduate students. In addition to collaborating with the Senior Dean of Faculty Development on all matters of regional leadership, the Dean Fellow of Relay Louisiana will help to inform Relay’s larger vision as a key stakeholder on the national Relay team. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work in partnership with colleagues to strengthen your understanding and implementation of Diversity, Equity and Inclusionary (DEI) practices by creating a personalized Diversity Equity and Inclusion plan and attending/leading institutional DEI
- Serve as the primary instructional leader for Louisiana by teaching and designing Relay courses, as well as advising a cohort of graduate students
- Manage and strengthen Relay’s relationships with key external partners including donors and schools, as well as prospective graduate students and faculty
- Work in partnership with Senior Deans and Vice Provosts to design a comprehensive program of study for graduate students, tailored to national and state specific standards and expectations for teachers
- Support and manage your operations team members in their major work streams including campus administration, operations and planning, events and classes, student support, recruitment and partnerships, and special projects. Examples of specific projects within these work streams include: academic scheduling; acquiring and creating all necessary resources and class/office space; working with national staff on recruitment, enrollment, communication, finance, student and staff policies, technology and facilities needs
- Set and monitor programmatic and instructional vision for Relay through participation in quarterly All Campus Meetings in New York with Regional Deans and Directors of Operations
- Coordinate and monitor communications between regional partners (including school partners) and shared and student services in the Relay National office
- Evaluate Relay programmatic implementation at the state and national level and provide feedback to the organization on how to strengthen the academic and operational components of the program
- Create and maintain a diverse portfolio of statewide partnerships to expand Relay’s impact within Louisiana
> Campus Leadership:
- Create and monitor an annual strategic plan using annual institutional goals, student and staff surveys, student performance data,
- Create, monitor, and evaluate a year-long Faculty Professional Development plan
- Assist in coordinating recruitment efforts with the operations team throughout the state— supporting them in designing shared and differentiated recruitment plans in response to the statewide market
- Partner with the operations team to manage the region fiscally relative to the personnel and programmatic budgets
- Partner with national shared services relative to fundraising and philanthropy
- Work to ensure a sustainable budget within three years
> Personnel Management:
- Manage faculty and operations colleagues on your campus team Synthesize performance data as noted by courses grades (i.e., mid-terms and finals)
- Monitor student performance in conjunction to faculty performance
- Create and implement faculty remediation plans in response to student performance and student experience
- Use the national advisement vision to create a customized advisement vision for the state, and facilitate training and support for faculty through implementation
- Develop and support full-time professors via video and in-person observations using the faculty rubric and feedback sessions
- Hold weekly check-ins with professors and other direct reports, reviewing, discussing and calendaring tasks, skills, mindsets, upcoming events,
- Manage and support part-time adjunct faculty, including but not limited to, proactive communication, Adjunct Orientation, observations and debriefs of adjunct instruction, and data analysis and action planning based on student survey results
- Lead hiring, onboarding, developing, and evaluation of all full-time faculty and staff
> Teaching:
- Teach Student Growth and Achievement and/or Methods sections (including prep, practice, set- up, debrief, and feedback for colleagues and students)
> Advising:
- Observe and coach in classrooms (and debrief with partners, school leaders, and students)
- Provide proactive and reactive feedback on students’ assessments and grades
- Advise up to 30 students (e.g., office hours, academic guidance, communication, letters of rec, etc.)
