The school seeks a part-time School Psychologist to join a team of educators focused on caring for the intellectual, physical and emotional health and wellness of students. Given the increasing complexities of children and adolescents’ lives, Westtown is committed to creating a holistic approach to supporting students, so that they can develop healthy, empathic and resilient relationships while living and learning in diverse communities.
Position Description: The School Psychologist(s) primary goal is to support students to reach their academic, psychosocial and emotional potentials either through direct assessment, brief interventions with the student(s) or indirect interventions when working with teachers, administrators and parents.
Approximately half of the position is focused on Lower School. The other half of the position is focused on Middle and Upper School.
The Psychologist will:
For PK - 12th Grades:
Provide Psychodiagnostic services (testing) in the areas of intelligence, personality, sensory motor, achievement and adaptive behavior to students with suspected exceptional educational needs, grades PK - 12.
Supervise Psychology PhD level doctoral students who will be directly administering psychoeducational testing for students in grades PK - 12.Psychologist will supervise doctoral students work including scoring, interpreting, analyzing data, report writing and recommendations that will inform learning support plans.
Present results of testing to the Student Support Team (SST) in the respective division. The testing reports will also be followed up with the development of a learning support plan that will be shared with the SST, the parents, the student and the teachers.
Meet and consult with parents of PK - 12 students who have been formally evaluated.
Meet regularly with Upper School Learning Specialist, Academic Dean and Principal/ Middle School Academic Counselor and Principal.
For Lower School Direct and Indirect Services:
Collaborate and consult with individual teachers regarding learning or behavioral concerns about students.
Provide direct short-term individual and/or group counseling services to students (e.g. social skills, self-regulation skills).
Provide outside referrals and resources that can address and support the student of concern.
Develop, implement, model a comprehensive curriculum that promotes growth in children’s social-emotional lives.
Serve as a consultant to the Lower School Principal and Lower School Child Study Team.
Provide professional development for faculty.
Coach parents and/or organize group presentations on specific strategies or techniques to support parents in more successful ways of engaging and managing their children’s behaviors.
Qualifications and Skills:
State Licensed School Psychologist (PhD or PsyD) with ten or more years of experience.
Experience with Independent School and child/adolescent populations.
Experience in providing in-service training to faculty and educational programs to parents.
Complex decision making and critical thinking skills and sound judgment.
Sensitivity to privacy concerns.
Strong organizational skills and ability to follow through with tasks.
Knowledge of broad and acute spectrum behavioral disorders and common learning disabilities.
Data analysis and evaluation skills along with solid interpersonal skills.
Personable and a team player.
