Summary of responsibilities
Reporting to the Primary School Principal, the Primary School Assistant Principal works collaboratively with the Primary School Principal and Assistant Principal responsible for grades 2 through 5 to promote smooth day-to-day functioning of the school in support of students’ social, emotional, and academic growth. The Primary School Assistant Principal is responsible for focused supervision and instructional leadership in PreSchool, Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and Grade 1.
Major functions and responsibilities
The Primary School Assistant Principal will:
Assume the responsibilities of the Primary School Principal in his/her absence.
Actively promote a climate of respect and understanding amongst faculty and staff, students, and parents.
Chair the Student Support Team in meeting the needs of diverse learners.
Create master teaching schedules and meeting schedules.
Create ROTA schedule, and oversee common area supervision by teachers and assistants, with a focus on the lunchroom and playground.
In cooperation with the Primary School Principal and Associate Head of School, ensure compliance with legal requirements of government regulations and agencies, and maintain the educational standards established by the state and by those agencies that examine and accredit the School.
Supervise and evaluate grade level teachers, assistant teachers, and single subject teachers in Preschool through Grade 1.
Oversee student social/emotional learning in Preschool through Grade 1, in collaboration with Counselor.
Monitor and support academic learning in Preschool through Grade 1, through continuous review of assessment data and report cards.
Regularly communicate with parents of students in Preschool through Grade 1.
Supervise curriculum development in Preschool through Grade 1, in collaboration with Curriculum Coordinator.
Oversee hiring and performance of new faculty and staff in Preschool through Grade 1.
Assist in the admission process for the evaluation of applicants for enrollment in Preschool through Grade 1.

Preferred Education and Experience
Experience in international school administration, preferably in a Primary Years Program school or at least five (5) years as an Early Childhood teacher.
Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood or Elementary Education; Master’s preferred.
Must be detail oriented, able to multi-task and prioritize effectively while using technology and data.
Knowledge of dual-language programs is preferred.
Ability to speak, read and write French of Spanish is a plus.

Typically, one half to three-quarters of WIS graduates earn the Bilingual IB Diploma, demonstrating fluency in two languages.
