The Office of Alumni Relations & Development at Lab is an energetic environment where team members work together to complete projects, execute events and carry out initiatives. Reporting to the Director of Alumni Relations and Giving, the Assistant Director plays a critical role in building relationships with Lab's alumni that encourages them to stay connected and support the schools both financially and through volunteer activities.
In this context, the Assistant Director, in concert with the Director of Alumni Relations and Giving and the department's Director of Operations, will be responsible for designing and implementing a robust alumni engagement program that seeks to ensure multiple opportunities for alumni to interact with one another and the Schools both physically and virtually in Chicago and in areas of major alumni concentration around the globe.
Additionally, the Assistant Director will work closely closely with the Assistant Director, Special Events to plan and execute Alumni Weekend serving as the primary staff liaison to milestone committees and partnering with the Director to develop strategies for class gift planning and solicitation, and will manage the reunion planning and class giving programs of 5 - 7 reunion classes.
The Assistant Director also serves as the main communications manager for the alumni office. In this capacity, the Assistant Director acts as editor of all mass communications, including but not limited to solicitation letters; emails, and other marketing pieces; researches and provides alumni story ideas for the LabLife magazine; and manages and coordinates the class notes and obituaries section of the LabLife magazine.
This position acts as the primary administrative support for alumni volunteers, including the Alumni Association Executive Board. In fulfilling this role, the Assistant Director along with the president of the AAEB schedules and organizes all volunteer meetings; prepares meeting reports and materials; staffs committees; and ensures that all volunteer driven activities are completed on time and under budget.
The Assistant Director will be responsible for working with members of Schools Leadership Team, especially the High School Principal, to develop and improve opportunities for alumni to engage with current students. Additionally, s/he will work to develop a program of study or engagement that will help to educate current high school seniors on the Alumni Association and assist them in making the transition from student to alumnus.
Collaborates with the Lab's Connections team to find ways to encourage Lab alumni to attend this all Schools event. This may involve brainstorming with alumni co-chairs and others as needed.
Collaborates with other Development staff on special projects including staffing events, and attending meetings. Serves as a resource for Lab faculty and staff .
Minimum of one year of experience working with students, volunteers, alumni, or similar constituent groups required. Event planning or customer service experience preferred. Experience working in a not-for-profit institution preferred. Experience working with a wide range of constituents with diverse backgrounds such as race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, learning abilities, class, language and nationality.
