First Baptist Academy is searching for a Middle School Counselor to begin Summer, 2017. The Counselor works as a team member with faculty, parents, and students to foster a caring, supportive, and safe environment in which middle school students can experience successful academic, social, and emotional development. This person is key part of the middle school educational leadership team and provides valuable assistance to all students in 5th through 8th grades.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Programming for students, faculty, and parents
Individual student support services
Small and large group support services
Academic, behavioral, and social support for students
Peer facilitation, peer relationships, and social skills
Aid in identifying high school options after graduation and help in the application process
Serve as an active member of the Leadership Team
Attend weekly Grade Level Team meetings to offer instructional support and academic guidance. Conduct Grade Level Team meetings in the Principal’s absence.
Available to attend and/or facilitate Parent/Teacher conferences when invited. (Regular occurrence) Implement the recording of notes on the Student Plan for Success Report at these meetings.
Assume the responsibility for the Middle School Awards Ceremony. This includes all aspects of the ceremony; meeting with teachers, securing appropriate names for awards, printing certificates, invitations, gathering teacher comments, editing and writing the manuscript as well as directing the ceremony.
Assist and help facilitate eighth-grade graduation.
Assist Head of School with presentations to faculty as needed for special topics. (i.e. school shooting presentation in January)
Assist and facilitate and present in a Transition Team Meeting involving parents of rising 5th graders in the spring.
Coordinate all of the Lower School and Middle School testing preparation which included ordering, structuring testing schedule, and training of personnel, implementing procedures, testing and administering make-ups.
Assist the Lower-school Principal and Middle school Principal in disseminating the explanatory information to parents as they move into the early years of ERB testing for their children.
Aide administrators in the interpretation of the scores.
A dynamic Christian educator with previous teaching and administrative experience in the Middle School environment.
A (1) school counselor license or (2) a Master’s Degree in Psychology or Educations with an emphasis on school counseling and exemplary academic credentials.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Additional Salary Information: Dependent on experience and is negotiable
