Holliston Public Schools, known for its commitment to world languages including its long-standing and highly successful K-12 French Immersion program and elementary Spanish, seeks a full-time district-wide World Language Coordinator/High School French teacher.
The Holliston Public Schools boasts an outstanding World Language program, recognized by the American Council on Teaching of Foreign Language in 2010 with the Melba Woodruff Award, given to districts for exemplary elementary foreign language programs. Language instruction in Holliston is focused on deep understanding of the perspectives, practices and products of the cultures associated with the target languages being taught. Educators strive to develop students' advanced proficiency with an early start in learning a language through a well-articulated curriculum utilizing high-quality, integrated performance assessments to determine progress. The curriculum is based upon Power Standards, Big Ideas and Essential Questions, and correlates to the Massachusetts Foreign Language Framework, the National Standards for Foreign Language Learning in the 21st Century, and the ACTFL Performance Guidelines for K-12 Learners.

The World Language Coordinator works in cooperation with the Assistant Superintendent and the four school principals to provide leadership for the development, assessment, maintenance, and revision of the World Language curriculum to ensure a high level of student learning across the grades. The position may participate in the evaluation process for Holliston's 25 world language educators.
As a 0.5 FTE French teacher, the individual works as a member of a 7 person department to further the language education of Holliston students in grades 9 through 12. Courses could include introductory French courses, such as French 2, or may include advanced classes such as Advanced Placement French. Holliston High School is characterized by a collaborative professional culture and strives to incorporate educational technology in meaningful ways in instruction and assessment.
The successful candidate will have a belief in the immersion philosophy of teaching languages and will articulate a continued K-12 vision for exceptional World Language course offerings. The successful candidate also has experience with curriculum mapping and curriculum unit development using the Understanding by Design framework. Experience with providing professional development, observing and providing feedback to staff members, and promoting programs through community outreach is required.
