Position Overview: Randolph-Macon Academy is seeking an Assistant Dean in the Upper School who will be responsible for assisting with providing direction, leadership, and expertise in an environment that promotes a love of learning. This position will arrange Academic schedules and manage testing to fulfill graduation requirements. The position reports to the Dean of the Upper School.
• Assist with movement to a project-based learning style in the Upper School and Middle School • Proactively collaborate with all levels to lead and direct all aspects of Upper School academics at the Academy • Help develop methods of teaching that use cutting edge technology to spark interest and desire to learn • Maintain a culture and love of learning; self-discipline and strong positive morals • Administer and support policies of the Academy and the Academics department • Registrar for the Upper School • AP Coordinator and liaison with Shenandoah University and LFCC for college credit courses • Direct the Summer School program for the Upper School • Coordinate the accurate placement of students from one academic year to the next • Assist with hiring, inspiring and retaining the highest quality faculty members • Work collaboratively with the Middle School to provide a seamless transition from Middle School to Upper School • Assist with development of curriculum and ensure curriculum is relevant and forward thinking • Monitor classroom instruction to include teacher evaluations • Provide instructional resources and materials to faculty including credentials • Foster collegiality and team building among staff members and help facilitate meetings to ensure cross-curriculum with the Middle School • Communicate and promote expectations; set goals and implement at the Upper School level • Assist with recruiting, admitting and retaining students • Conduct conferences with parents and students
• Must enjoy working with High School age students – must be creative, consistent, empathetic and dynamic • Master’s degree in education or school administration • Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience • Proven success in positively leading at the Upper School level • Strategic thinker • Working knowledge of Upper School age students, developmental needs, and how to connect • Proven track record of success with student achievement • Significant experience leading a team of educators • Ability to balance the needs of students, families and faculty • Excellent communicator with ability to produce ideas, communicate them, make recommendations and positively influence the outcome • Strong interpersonal and networking skills • Strong leadership, management and supervisory skills • Ability to exercise sound judgement • Proven ability to establish solid positive working relationships • Ability to maintain confidentiality of proprietary and confidential information with the highest ethical standards and meticulous attention to detail • Prefer private school experience
