The Associate Head of School / Principal will have a deep understanding of the multiple spheres and relationships that comprise life at Carlthorp School. Among these are strategic thinking and planning, pedagogy and curriculum, human resources, parent relations, admissions, advancement and fundraising, and communications and marketing.
In addition to the responsibilities outlined below, the Associate Head will contribute meaningfully to efforts in admissions, advancement, finance, operations, and long-term planning with the Head of School, the Director of Admissions, the Director of Communications, the Finance Director, and Board of Trustees.
1. Supporting faculty & students:
Manages professional growth of faculty & evaluations
Manages student issues (e.g., health, behavioral, and special learning needs)
Supports teachers during meetings with parents, as needed
Serves as liaison between HOS, faculty, and parents
Works directly with HOS and Dir. of Communications to further advance the internal communication network for faculty and administration and the external communication with parents
Strategic Plan / Master Plan
Curricular Review with Director of Curriculum & Instruction
Manage classroom schedules and school calendar
Report Cards / Cum Folders / Health Records
Manages professional development for faculty
4. Staffing (faculty):
Identifies needs and recruits top teachers
Recommends budget for salaries of faculty
Responsible for professional goal setting and performance evaluations
Assesses student needs
Ensures vertical alignment
Active thought partner with Director of Curriculum & Instruction and the HOS
Promotes excellence in the classroom
Manages professional development opportunities for faculty, educational material expenditures, and field trips.
