National Policy Board for Educational Administration – Alliance for Advancing School Leadership
The National Policy Board for Education Administration (NBPEA), a non-profit 501c3, is a national alliance of major membership organizations committed to the advancement of school and school-system leadership. Member organizations represent the educational administration profession and collaborate to improve the preparation and practice of educational leaders at all levels. Current assets include the organization’s website, professional standards that are used for policy and practice that support school and district leaders and the responsibility for reviewing leadership preparation programs seeking voluntary, national accreditation through CAEP.

NPBEA seeks an innovative, experienced senior leader to serve as Interim Director for a period of one year. This is a contractual part-time position, reporting to the President of the NPBEA Board, with the core responsibility of working with the board to set a strategic direction for the organization, strengthening its position and capacity to serve as the primary policy body working collectively to advance the field of school and district leadership. The amount of time devoted to this part-time position and compensation are negotiable. It is the desire of NPBEA to hire a full-time director following this transition year.
Interim Director Responsibilities
Support the development of a strong governing board, including managing a board engagement process through meetings and committee work.
Create a project management plan within the first 90 days detailing the tasks and process to engage the board to produce a strategic plan for NPBEA.
Provide support to Board Chair to manage the current assets and commitments of NPBEA in FY18, specifically the operation of the SPA Coordinator who is charged with coordination of the SPA accreditation program for CAEP.
Provide support to the Board Chair for the advocacy for state adoption of NPBEA’s various leadership standards.
Deliver an initial strategic plan for NPBEA board adoption by May 2018. Prepare a FY18 business/operational plan by June 2018 for board approval.
Desired Skills and Qualifications
Content knowledge: Understand the policy landscape, issues, trends and key players in the education leadership space, primarily focused on principals and district level leaders. Understanding of non-profit governance and structures.
Project management: Can develop and execute a project management plan.
Strategic Planning: Experience developing or participating as a senior leader in setting organizational strategy, including creating actual plan or plan components. Demonstrates strategic agility in thinking.
Board Engagement: Experience working with a board of directors, including facilitating board meetings and work groups and bringing groups to consensus.
Fundraising/Resource Allocation: Track record of securing funds through grants and other strategies to support projects and workplans.
Organizational and personal skills: Ability to operate at a high level of productivity and resourcefulness, perform under pressure, appropriately set priorities, engage in critical and candid conversations, maintain professional demeanor and meet deadlines.
