Job Summary: The Director of Violence Prevention for Enlace Chicago will provide strategic direction to the organizations comprehensive violence prevention efforts, including all programs and collaborations within the department’s purview.
Reports to: Associate Director
Accountable to: Senior Leadership Team
Communicates with: Leadership Team, Violence Prevention Program Manager and Violence Prevention Department Staff
Informs: School Principals, 10th District Police, Funders, and Little Village Community Partners and Stakeholders
Duties and Responsibilities:
Guide collaborative efforts including 1.) the Little Village Youth Safety Network, a collective impact effort composed of 12 diverse institutions and 2.) the Violence Prevention Collaborative, which is a collaborative of 25 community partners that aims to bring community leaders together around initiatives, strategies, and systems reform
Support the intradepartmental implementation of the Roots to Wellness collaborative, a collaborative of mental health providers in the Little Village community
Familiarize yourself with the day-to-day activities of the violence prevention department personnel, in order to better represent the department at different tables.
Enhance collaborative relationships with community partners who support violence prevention work, including sub-contracting and capacity building when appropriate
Utilize evidence-based practices to provide strategic direction for the department’s prevention focus
Collaborate and strategize with Enlace’s education, health, and immigration teams
Integrate the violence prevention team in Enlace’s organizing and advocacy efforts
Lead the design and implementation of ongoing process and outcome evaluation for the department
Actively engage in relevant research within the fields of juvenile justice, criminal justice, violence prevention, and youth development
Participate in grant-writing to ensure continuity of programs in addition to strategic expansion
Develop relationship with diverse partners in the violence prevention field. This includes academia, philanthropy, area experts, researchers, other practitioners, and those working in the public sector.
Supervise three staff: Violence Prevention Program Manager, Collaborative Coordinator, and Data Specialist
Oversee and execute some administrative tasks such as drafting/approving Memorandums of Understandings, budget reviews, etc.
Knowledge of roots causes of youth violence, gangs, and the juvenile justice system
Knowledge and proven experience in community-based work. Preference given to candidates with strong connections and knowledge of the Little Village neighborhood, and Chicago.
Experience working with diverse populations
Knowledge of community systems and community agencies that are working to prevent youth violence, experience collaborating with multiple systems (schools, law enforcement, juvenile justice system, community-based agencies, etc)
Experience in partnership development and maintenance
Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
Experience supervising personnel
Bilingual (English/ Spanish) required
Strong research orientation, previous experience in community data collection preferred
Clinical mental health experience preferred
Knowledge or familiarity with the implementation of street outreach programs
Proven skills in data collection and analysis, experience with grant reporting
Experience developing and implementing community-based programs
Flexibility, ability to prioritize, and experience working on multiple tasks efficiently and effectively.
Masters degree (MSW preferred) or Bachelors Degree with minimum five years of relevant work experience. LCSW or JD a plus.
